We are enjoying more time outdoors in this beautiful weather, watching the earth wake from winter slumber, observing and interacting with creatures and plant life all around us. Don’t forget your sunscreen and sun hat!
We are putting together final preparations for our Spring Fair on May 9th. We could still use your help to solicit items or services for the silent auction, to prepare baked goods for our concession stand or to volunteer time to run a booth or activity during the fair. Donations of potted (indoor or outdoor) plants for our plant sale would also be much appreciated. Reply to Stephanie at this address for any and all offerings. Thank you!

Santa Fe Earth Day Events
Wednesday, April 22
“Coffee with Mayor David Coss” on Sustainability on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Lincoln Ave.
Wednesday, April 22
The Santa Fe Alliance is proud to present a free screening of a documentary film portraying the dreams, stories and future prospects of families running businesses over multiple generations. LEGACY-Generations of Family Business will be shown Wednesday, April 22, 6 p.m. at the Jean Cocteau Cinema (now the New Mexico Film Museum) 418 Montezuma Ave. Produced by Jim Howard, this is a project created as a labor of love in an effort to help reduce the decline of family business. Mayor David Coss will introduce the film. A discussion will follow the 30-minute DVD presentation to explore the growing concern surrounding family enterprises and to record the practical ideas and actions participants can take to increase support for family businesses and thereby help build thriving local economies and vibrant communities.
Saturday April 25
Earth Care International and the City of Santa Fe have partnered with Santa Fe County and the Santa Fe Watershed Association to host an Earth Day event on Saturday, April 25, 2009.
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Santa Fe Railyard Park
The event will kickoff at the Santa Fe Railyard Park with music from the Santa Fe Concert Band and Mariachi Estrella, a youth open mic event with poetry and other performance art by local youth, presentations by local dignitaries, tables with information and fun activities from local environmental and youth groups and the announcement of the winners of the first annual Sustainability Awards from the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission.
2:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Tree Planting with Santa Fe Watershed Association and Santa Fe County
At 2:30 the festivities will continue with a tree planting event at the San Ysidro Park in the village of Agua Fria. Be part of this river restoration project by helping to stabilize the river banks with native plants. San Ysidro Park is located along the Santa Fe River from San Ysidro Crossing to Caja del Oro Grant Road.
6 to 8 p.m.
Evening Workshop on Sustainable Santa Fe Plan Implementation at the Clear Light Book Store
The day will finish with a discussion on sustainability including development of implementation strategies for the Sustainable Santa Fe Plan. The Clear Light Book Store is located at 851 W. San Mateo Street where Open Hands used to be.
Sustainable Santa Fe Commission Sustainability Awards
If you would like to submit a nomination for the Sustainability Awards that will be given out during this event, please visit the City of Santa Fe website at www.santafenm.gov and click on the button that says “Sustainability.”
We so much appreciate all of your who showed up yesterday to help and to shop. Thanks as well for all your donations which led to the success of the rummage sale. (A donation acknowledgment form is attached for any of you who need it for tax purposes.) We made a little over $950. Special thanks to our fabulous helpers (in no particular order): Steve Yadzinski, Karen Menetrey, Rose Segura, Kathleen Brandenburg, Kelly Stranahan, Barbara Z., Tanja Bolle, Devon Gilchrist, Shari Garman, Rebecca Cook, Aaron Payne, Karen Earle Browne, Dawn Swanson, Anna Heiniger, Laura Brown, Rick Word, John Stubbs, Molly Brooks, Lisa Rohleder, Natalie Gober, Robbie Cortez and Joshua.
Another fun filled week is before us. When the weather is warm, we are outside more, so please remember to sunscreen your child and send hats and layers for our fickle spring weather. Also water bottles.
Dates to look out for:
Monday, April 20th-Saturday, April 26th: National TV Turn Off Week — We will be talking about this in all classes. Please brainstorm with your child what to do without electronic media, and make a list of things you can do.
Wednesday, April 22: EARTH DAY Dragonfly classes will have special activities relevant to the day. See attachment for Santa Fe city wide events. Also there will be activities after 4 PM at La Montanita, across the river from the school.
Thursday, April 23rd, 9AM: Buds field trip to Tres Placitas to visit the baby goats
Friday, April 24th, 3PM: Spring Fair planning meeting; please rsvp Stephanie@dragonflyschool.com if you will need childcare for the meeting.
Next week: Thursday, April 30 and Friday May 1. Teacher in-service days — NO SCHOOL

Dear Families,
Welcome back and get ready! We hope that you were able to enjoy some time off with your kids, as we are now heading into April and May(hem). This is the busiest time of the year at school. Children will be spending more time outdoors, getting messier, going on field trips and continuing their hands-on learning in all areas of study. It is also a time for community activities and events.Please help support your child through this season by noting activities and having your child be prepared for deviations from routine.(Check our calendar on line for most up-to-date info.) Also please remember sunscreen every day, appropriate outdoor gear and any special requirements for field trips.
Spring is a great time for parents to be involved, as well. We will need your help when taking field trips or doing big, messy projects, and for orchestrating our various events. Upcoming on April 18th will be our first ever Rummage Sale. Please support our school while cleaning out your closets. Donations are welcome to be dropped off at school starting tomorrow, April 6. We will send out a schedule this week for those of you who would like to volunteer time towards this fundraising event. Please contact Stephanie if you are a willing volunteer and/or are interested in joining our marketing and fundraising committee.
