Weekly Update 10-31-10

Dear Families,

We had a spooky and fabulous time at our Halloween party. Thanks to everyone who showed up to enjoy and support this event! Popcorn hands, the haunted house, beanbag toss, ghastly gooey mysteries, gak making, dangling apples and face painting were all a great deal of fun. We also enjoyed eating the treats that students made including spider pretzels, dried apples and our own apple cider pressed fresh during the party.

Please remember that 6oz and 32oz YOGURT containers are recyclable at Dragonfly (but not in your city curbside bin!). The grey bin with the recycling symbol standing by the top gate is reserved specifically for these items. Also, you may recycle any size printer ink cartridge in your classroom, for which Dragonfly receives credit for classroom & office supplies.

School photo proofs will arrive next week. You may order from the proofs if you choose. There will be no proof for group photos. Retakes will be on Tuesday, November 2nd.

For your reference at field trip time, here are the state laws for seat belting children. Please be sure your child is properly and legally restrained for field trips by providing adequate seats:

2) children ages 6 and under, and children who weigh less than 60 pounds regardless of age, must be properly secured in a federally approved car seat or booster seat; and 3) children ages 7 to 12 must be properly secured in a seat belt or federally approved booster seat that fits their height and weight. New Mexico law also states that when children are wearing a seat belt, properly restrained means that the lap belt sits low across the hips and not on the abdomen, and that the shoulder portion of the seat belt crosses the chest, not the head or neck. When wearing a seat belt, New Mexico state law says properly secured children are able to sit all the way back against the vehicle seat with their knees bent over the seat edge.

Weekly Update 10-10-10

Dear Families,

The weather is changeable and (today) brisk. Please remember to update your child’s extra clothing and to utilize layers for all-day comfort. Sun hats, sunscreen and water bottles are still essential.

Our field trip to the Community Farm on Thursday was a lovely excursion for the entire school, though we found less fruit and vegetables there than last year. We were still able to make a generous donation to the Food Depot and to save a couple of boxes of apples for cooking and drying at the school. Parent help was much appreciated!

Great thanks to all who spent time to make our Rummage Sale a great success! We netted over $1700 with this event, and it was a lot of fun for those who participated! Special thanks to our super-helpers who went above and beyond the expectations-Karen Menetrey, Justin Stockdale, Melissa Duncan, Shari Garman and Karen Earle-Browne. Also to our staff who made sure to fill in the gaps as they appeared. A thank-you letter for rummage sale donations is attached; thanks for all the cool stuff! We also added some nice items to our own classrooms gleaned from your contributions.

You will notice our special requests for parent participation will not be so constant now; thanks for stepping up during such a busy start to the year. It is tricky to take advantage of the weather without over-burdening our adults. We won’t have this much need of help again until May for our Spring Fair, though opportunities for your involvement are always available and highly valued by our students and staff.
