Have you just found that too-small winter coat in your child’s closet? Bring it to Dragonfly and we will deliver to the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families, which serves relationship abuse survivors, batterers and child witnesses, working to end domestic violence in our community. Esperanza is currently in need of warm clothing for women, men and kids. Used items in good condition are wonderful! They will also gladly accept bedding and basic toiletries: soap, shampoo, lotions (hotel sizes, too), hairbrushes and combs. We will be collecting items in the Seeds classroom from now into the new year. Thank you for all that you do.
Thanks to Pete Jackson (Toreh’s dad) for teaching the next block of movement classes for all students here at Dragonfly from now up until spring break. His style incorporates tumbling, drumming and Capoeira(an Afro-Brazilian art combining elements of martial arts, music and dance). We hope to continue to see Emily Rothchild, who was wonderful in teaching the first block of movement.
We would also like to welcome our new music teacher, Jeremy Bleich, who has worked extensively with the Opera in the Schools program here in Santa Fe and in inner-city schools in Cleveland before moving to Santa Fe. Jeremy is a professional musician who specializes in middle eastern instruments. He will be working with the Saplings and the Aspens every Friday afternoon.
Our Annual Campaign letter will be going out this week. We are grateful for the tremendous amount of support that our families provide to Dragonfly and hope that you will continue to contribute to our school as we look towards the future.
A donation of any size from every school family is valuable in its own right and will also prove our community involvement to foundations and other grant sources and increase our likelihood of outside funding through those organizations.
It is extremely helpful for every family to spread the news of Dragonfly and look for support outside of our school community. If you will think of three other people who might encourage our cause and send them a letter, it will greatly broaden our audience and often results in interest in our school, as well as financial assistance. Please look for copies of the letter in your classroom or simply reply to this email with addresses for us to follow up with. Remember, contributions to Dragonfly are tax-deductible! Thank you!!
