Weekly Update 2-27-11

Dear Families,
If you haven’t already done so, please remember to return you RE-ENROLLMENT packet by TUESDAY. (You may leave it in the envelope on the office door.) If you do not let us know of your choice (Yes or No for enrollment the coming year) your deposit will be forfeit. We do not want to keep your money; we want to be informed of your decision so that we may notify others on the wait list and begin to plan the coming year. Thank you!
Don’t forget that you can track dates and events online at www.dragonflyschool.com-just hit the calendar link!
As we work our way towards spring, expect your child to enjoy more time and activities outdoors. Please be sure to have your child prepared with sunscreen and hat each day and to be suitably dressed in layers for the changing weather.
The coming of spring also means preparation for Spring Fair, coming May 7! As always, we can’t make this a fun and fabulous event without your invaluable help. In addition to offering up your time, you can help in the following ways ahead of the event:
* Clean out the toy box and bring in your clean, used toys to be given as recycled prizes for those who play games at the fair
* Sort through your adult and children’s books for the used book sale
* Dig up your large old bones for our fossil dig and museum (bigger is better, but not your prized collection since kids will be digging them out of the sand with shovels)
* Bring in plant starts and growing cuttings for the plant sale
* Please help solicit auction items for our silent auction:Items should be $25 value and up. Anything goes! Restaurant, lodging & retail gift certificates, kids activities and items, household goods, art, etc. A good place to start is to ask for donations where you shop. Attached is a thank you for tax-deductible donations. Please let Lauren Whitehurst know when you secure donations, at whitehurstrankin@mac.com. Thanks to Lauren for managing the donations list!
* If business donors would prefer to sponsor expenses for the Spring Fair ($100 and up) their business logo will be included in all print advertising for the fair.
Thank you for all that you do!

Weekly Update 2-13-11

Dear Families,

As you consider re-enrollment at Dragonfly for your child, please schedule a visit to your child’s anticipated class for next year. We are very excited to share what is yet to come with you  as parents. Appointments may be made with the office (so visits don’t overlap). Your re-enrollment decision is due by March first, regardless of your choice to attend.

In an effort to maximize the efficiency of our school office, we will be limiting our phone answering hours to between 8-9AM, and checking and returning messages at noon and at the end of each school day. Please be sure to leave us a message so that we can get back to you!

We notice that we seem to be deviating from our standard policy that toys should be left at home. Please remember that toys brought to school are at risk for loss or damage and that their presence can cause distraction during the school day. Please leave toys at home. If your child needs a particular transition item as standard equipment, please discuss this with your teacher. Thank you for your support.

Our parent survey will remain open for the rest of this week. Thanks to everyone who has participated already. If you haven’t  done so, please take 5-10 minutes to let us know your opinion of Dragonfly School. Find the survey at:

2-9 Two hour delay

In accordance with the determination by SFPS for a two hour weather delay, Dragonfly will open at 10:00 on Wednesday morning.

School on 2-4-11?

Dear Families,

Barring unforeseen incidents having to do with frigid temperatures, Dragonfly will be open tomorrow at 8:00 on Friday, February 4. Please check the website or call the school in the morning to check for any change in plans.

If we should lose heat or water use, we will need to close and will notify  you via email. Please be on alert for such a notification during the day, as it would indicate a safety issue for students and staff, and we would need children to leave the premises asap.If you are unavailable via email, please let your teacher know the best phone number to  reach you at.

You may thank our lovely old adobe building with passive solar gain, expectations for a sunny (though cold) day  and our very dedicated staff for this deviation from our normal procedure of following SFPS school closures. Please expect classrooms to be a bit cooler tomorrow in accordance with our governor’s request to reduce energy use and please dress your child accordingly.

See you soon!

2-hour delay 2-3-11

Due to extreme weather conditions, SFPS has called a two-hour delay for Thursday, February 3. Dragonfly will also be on a two-hour delay.

If SFPS should cancel school later in the morning, we will also cancel, as it is our policy to follow the public school determinations concerning weather delays and closures. Thank you for your patience.

Stay warm!
