Weekly Update 1-24-10

Dear Families,

We enjoyed spending time with the many families who attended our Open House yesterday. As we look to expand our enrollment, we will be planning another in the near future. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, please be sure to schedule a classroom visit with the class your child may attend in the coming year. Call Nancy in the office to set a date and time for your visit.

We are beginning to plan our third annual Spring Fair to be held in May. We will need lots of help organizing, soliciting donations and running booths and activities. Our first meeting will be this Thursday at 4:00 in the Saplings classroom; please consider attending or let us know of ideas, connections, offerings, etc. Your help is most appreciated! Childcare will be available during the meeting; please respond to stephanie@dragonflyschool.com if you will need childcare. Thanks for your help, as always.

Weekly Update December 6

Dear Families,

Thank you for your enthusiastic response to our annual giving campaign; we brought in $700 this week in answer to our letter of request. We are most pleased to see our support extending outside our own parent body and hope that you all will encourage others to contribute towards our school. In addition we have received $3800 from families since November 1 and pledges for another $2100. We are closing in on our goal (though we haven’t met it yet). THANK YOU!
Please remember to update any changes in your contact information with the school. It is important for us to be able to reach you at all times. Also, here is a review from our handbook regarding health and school. Thank you for helping to ensure that our students, staff and families have a healthy winter season.
Illness

We kindly ask you to keep your child at home if he/she exhibits signs of contagion:

Diarrhea

Vomiting

Impetigo (rash caused by strep or staph)

Headache

Sore throat

Persistent cough

Yellow/greenish nasal discharge

Redness, drainage or discharge from eyes

Elevated temperature

Infectious rash (chicken pox, measles)

Scabies, head lice or other infestation

We try to let parents know when something serious is going around. If your child has something contagious, please let us know so that we can inform other parents of what to watch for.

Your child should be able to return to school with your physician’s approval 24 hours after antibiotic treatment has begun or 24 hours after the child’s temperature has returned to normal.

Please remember that individual hygiene practices can make or break it for us all. Thank you for your help.

If a Child Gets Sick at School

When a child becomes ill at school, i.e., temperature of 100 degrees or more, headache or stomachache, etc. parents will be notified and asked to pick up the child as soon as possible. We will make them comfortable and provide supervision until a parent can pick up. If we call you, please come as soon as possible, because your child will want to be home.

Weekly Update Oct. 25

Dear Families,

Our thanks to you all for your compassionate and helpful responses as we reached out to you  this past week. Your support will help the school weather these hard times. Remember: Dragonfly School is tax exempt as a 501(c)(3) organization; any financial contribution beyond your tuition is tax-deductible.
It has been a good week for communication; we also much appreciated being able to sit together with you on Thursday and Friday to connect and rejoice about your children. We are truly impressed by the community we have created together here at Dragonfly.
As we move toward our goals as a school, we are happy to announce that a $1,000 grant has been awarded to Dragonfly School in order for our Saplings class to study the use of energy by ancient New Mexican peoples! Great work on the part of our teacher, Molly Brooks, and grant-writer, Karen Menetrey, who made this funding happen.
If you lost your Toyota key with fingernail clippers attached in our parking lot recently, it is waiting for you in the office.

We will again sponsor trick-or-treat for UNICEF; if you will be taking your child out on Halloween night, please bring along this little orange box to solicit change for this worthy cause. Trick-or-Treat boxes are available in your classroom.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 10-12: WHEEL-A-THON RESCHEDULED-We were sorry to see the first snowy day arrive with our scheduled event, but it was precipitation much needed, so we have gladly rescheduled. This also gives us a bit more time to solicit pledges. Please ask friends and family to support your child’s ride. Thank you!
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6: SAPLINGS AND BUDS FIELD TRIP TO THE RIO GRANDE ZOO in Albuquerque. They will need drivers and chaperones in order for this trip to happen. Please sign up with your teacher.
