Weekly Update 4-25-10

Dear Families,

Earth Day was a big success for Dragonfly! Many of our students participated in the turning off of their televisions and electronics for the entire week, getting outside and enjoying the many gifts of nature. At school, all of the students and staff contributed to the cleanup of our neighborhood surrounding the running river (Parents, we missed you!) bringing in many pounds of trash and recyclables which we will be sorting into our new clear bins in order to document what and how much detritus Dragonfly students have fished out of the river and its area this year. The bins are part of the equipment purchased with a grant from the Central New Mexico Audubon Society, along with new water & puncture-resistant gloves for river and garden projects. We are so grateful that our larger community endorses and helps us fund these important educational programs.  Students also enjoyed our “Earthday Cake” baked by the Sprouts and frosted with maple yogurt by the Seeds, as well as special Earth Day songs for the occasion.

Spring Fair is almost upon us, and you will find VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP SHEETS in your classroom. It is essential to the fair’s success that each family offer time to run a booth, set up or break down at this event. This will be one of the last opportunities to volunteer your time this year. If you haven’t completed your hours for the year  yet, this is a key occasion to be helpful at. We are also looking for the loan of party canopies (easy-ups) during this event. If you have any to loan, please respond to this email. THANK YOU!

If you have been soliciting donations or have books, plants or prizes to bring in, we will begin to collect starting this week. Please bring your items to the office, or email Aaron ap@apfineart.com if you have large items that are tricky to transport and move around. He is creating the listing for all auction items. Thanks to so many of you for the extra effort made to support this event!

Also, great thanks to our sponsors who are helping to pay for the expenses incurred: Los Alamos National Bank, One Step Beyond Physical Therapy, Aaron Payne Fine Art and Patricia Peck,DDS.
